Axel Foley is back, and he’s still wearing the same jacket, as Eddie Murphy is spotted on the set of Beverly Hills Cop 4. Now revealed to be titled Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley, several Twitter users have taken to social media to share these first look images at Murphy back in the iconic role, with the sequel set to be released by Netflix. You can check out the exciting images of Eddie Murphy’s long-awaited return as Axel Foley below.

Not only do the images reveal the return of Murphy’s intrepid cop, but also Paul Reiser as Detective Jeffrey Friedman as well. While the images don’t offer too much in terms of plot detail, it looks like Axel will once again throw himself head first into solving crimes, with Murphy’s arm seen in a sling. If nothing else, it’s good to see that Axel Foley is still the same bull-headed cop he always was.

While we have no idea exactly what Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley will involve, as plot details are being kept under wraps, we can surely assume that Axel Foley’s return will find the Detroit-based detective on his way back to Beverly Hills once again in order to tackle crime and catch the perpetrators behind it. And all with his signature style of humor, of course.

Legendary comedian and actor Eddie Murphy first debuted as Axel Foley almost 40 years ago in the first Beverly Hills Cop. Directed by Martin Brest, Beverly Hills Cop finds Foley, a street-smart Detroit cop, heading to Beverly Hills, California to solve the murder of his best friend. The buddy cop action outing was a huge critical and commercial success, spawning several sequels and cementing Murphy as a movie star.

The role has since become synonymous with Eddie Murphy, and despite the lesser received Beverly Hills Cop III, many have been hoping for some time that he would someday reprise the role and bring Axel Foley back to screens. Well, today is that day.

Though we still don’t know the plot, several details surrounding Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley have now been revealed. Joining Eddie Murphy in the highly anticipated sequel are Taylour Paige (Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, The Toxic Avenger) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt (500 Days of Summer, The Dark Knight Rises), with Paul Reiser's involvement also now confirmed.

There has not been any word as yet whether Judge Reinhold or any of the other familiar faces from the Beverly Hills Cop franchise will return alongside Murphy and Reiser. Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley is being directed by Mark Molloy from a script written by Will Beall. Eddie Murphy, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Chad Oman will produce, while Charisse Hewitt-Webster and Ray Angelic are executive producing.

Fans have been waiting years for a fourth Axel Foley outing, with Murphy promising that he would not be involved unless the script was good enough. "They've been trying to make another Beverly Hills Cop for 15 years now,” the actor said last year. “Right now, Netflix has it, and they're trying to develop a script. That's what we're supposed to be doing next. But, I'm not doing nothing until the script is right."

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel Foley does not yet have a release date but will debut on Netflix.
