Tobey Maguire is teaming up with Sony Pictures to produce the sci-fi action film Eden Project. Sony has picked up the script by Christina Hodson, whose screenplays have been featured on The Black List for the past two years.

Story details are being kept under wraps, but the plot reportedly revolves around two female characters, and is the first part of a conceived trilogy. Heat Vision's sources claim the deal for Christina Hodson's script was for $750,000, a high figure in a sagging spec script marketplace these days.

Tobey Maguire will produce alongside his Material Pictures partner Matthew Plouffe. The deal marks the second in the last few weeks for Material Pictures company, having sold their chess drama Pawn Sacrifice, starring Tobey Maguire, Peter Sarsgaard and Liev Schreiber, to new distributor Bleeker Street, after its debut at the Toronto Film Festival.

Material Pictures is currently in pre-production on the young adult adaptation The 5th Wave, which stars Chloe Moretz and is set to begin production in October.

Christina Hodson made The Black List, an annual list of the industry's best unproduced screenplays, in both 2012 and 2013 with her scripts Shut In and Seed. Shut In was picked up by David Linde's Lava Bear, and Seed was acquired by Temple Hill. The writer is also developing Unforgettable for Warner Bros., which has Denise Di Novi attached to produce and Amma Asante set to direct.
