In less than one year, Everything Everywhere All at Once has taken the world by storm, captivating audiences with the reality-bending, multiverse adventure. The hype surrounding the absurdist, martial arts feature has only gained more traction as the 2023 awards season ramps up. The film received the most nominations this year at the 95th Academy Awards with 11 nominations and has currently brought home 83 wins to date. The feature continues to maintain relevance within the film industry and popular culture, and it turns out the EEAAO team is going for a theatrical three-peat. Daniel Kwan — who makes up one-half of the film’s directing duo Daniels — announced on social media that Everything Everywhere All at Once is getting its third nationwide theatrical release, beginning Friday, January 27th.“EEAAO is going to be back in 1400 theaters nationwide tomorrow,” Kwan’s tweet began. Everything Everywhere All at Once received its first nationwide release on April 8, 2022, followed by a second release in August due to demand from the film’s soaring popularity. The second release included an introduction from the Daniels and featured an additional eight minutes of outtakes for viewers to enjoy.Kwan didn’t mention any new additions once EEAAO hits theaters again, but given the nature of the film, it may not be completely out of the picture. In the rest of Kwan’s announcement, he mentions that this re-release is for those who may have missed their shot to see it on the big screen, accidentally left at the film’s “false ending”, and even those who “want to hate-watch the film Cats style with your friends.”

With this latest release, Everything Everywhere All at Once continues to ride the wave of its popularity and well-deserved achievements. The film has evolved into a cultural phenomenon that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, anytime soon. As Kwan mentioned in the succession of tweets, this re-release gives EEAAO the opportunity to broaden its viewership once more, while also giving die-hard enthusiasts another chance to experience the meaningful epic sci-fi fantasy in person with others. “Whether it’s your 1st or 31st time watching it, I hope you get something out of it.”

Everything Everywhere All at Once would not have reached the heights it has without the transcendent performances of Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu as the Wang family. Yeoh stars as the disgruntled, immigrant laundromat owner Evelyn who with the help of her benevelot husband Waymond (Quan) embarks on a multiversal journey to save their daughter Joy (Hsu). The 2023 Oscars’ nomination announcement occurred on January 24 and Yeoh made history as the first Asian-identifying actress to be nominated for Best Actress. The rest of the Wang family, Quan and Hsu, were also nominated in the Supporting Actor categories.

Although The Academy has come under fire in other areas for their lack of representation, the organization has been praised for its AAPI recognition across the categories in this year’s nominations, most of which comes from the EEAAO team. In an exclusive with Variety, Yeoh spoke on the historic year for AAPI representation in the awards circuit and how she hopes it affects the industry moving forward.

“We’ve always been there, but we’ve not had the same kind of opportunities. I hope this completely changes things. I hope that we, as actors, don’t get cast because we’re African American or Asian or this or that. We are cast because we are good at what we do, and we should be given the opportunity to show that. If this is what you love, if this is what you’re passionate about and you want to be a good storyteller and be able to have your stories to be told — just don’t give up. Look at me, 40 years down the road.”
