Elijah Wood has signed on to star alongside Celyn Jones in the Dylan Thomas biopic Set Fire to the Stars.

The plot is based on the relationship between Welsh poet Dylan Thomas (Celyn Jones) and American poet John Malcolm Brinnin (Elijah Wood), who was instrumental in bringing Dylan Thomas to America for his famous visits in the early 1950s, just before his death in 1953. Brinnin also had to deal with his hero's drunken and erratic behavior, stories which he turned into the 1955 book Dylan Thomas in America. Kelly Reilly, Shirley Henderson and Steven Mackintosh are also starring in unspecified roles.

Andy Goddard, who is best known for directing several episodes of Downton Abbey, is directing from a script he co-wrote with Celyn Jones. A.J. Riach is producing, with Steve Clark-Hall executive producing. Gruff Rhys from the band Super Furry Animals will provide the score.

Production will begin at the end of this month, with shooting to take place in and around Dylan Thomas' home of Swansea, Wales.
