Elizabeth Olsen has made it clear that the often cited belief that you are never going to win big awards starring in a Marvel project is something that even the actors know. Despite WandaVision being nominated for Emmy Awards, Olsen told Jimmy Fallon while promoting Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, that she was never really under the impression she was going to win. While the actress was realistic when it came to her award chances, that doesn’t mean she feels anything less than having achieved something great with the series.

WandaVision is just one of the previous Marvel projects that lead directly into Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and while it is not essential that anyone watching the new movie must have seen WandaVision, or Loki come to that, prior to heading to cinemas, it certainly enhances the viewing of Doctor Strange’s latest adventure. As one of the biggest shows to have premiered on Disney+ since the platform’s launch, it is fair to say that WandaVision was a big hit with fans and critics alike, and was certainly deserving of the Emmy nominations it received. Marvel, though, has a certain reputation when it comes to big awards, and the outcome is usually nothing short of a disappointment. Olsen told The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon:

"I mean, it was very surprising. No one does a Marvel job and thinks that you're going to get nominated for something. But, we did! And we actually got to celebrate together for the first time at the Emmys. Because we wrapped during COVID. I wish that everyone was together. Like, department heads and everything. But, it was special to be there and celebrate our show among really serious things."

When the second Doctor Strange movie was originally announced, it was believed that Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch would play some kind of role in the movie. By the time the movie released in theaters, it was made clear that this is a Doctor Strange movie, but it is also a Wanda movie, very much in the same way Civil War was a Captain America movie but really played out like an Avengers outing.

As one of the many popular characters to have inhabited the MCU for the last decade, Olsen’s character has had a pretty harrowing story arc in her time in the franchise, from her introduction as a misguided villain, to becoming an Avenger, then an outcast, and then a character torn by grief who was willing to enslave a whole town with her mind to give herself the life she wanted. Multiverse of Madness continues Wanda’s story as she and Strange experience the dangers of the multiverse, with many surprises and twists in store before the end credits roll.

Where Olsen’s MCU journey goes from here is currently unclear, but with rumors that the actress has signed a new contract with Marvel Studios, we could see a lot more of the Scarlet Witch in the future.
