From the moment Emily first met Gabriel, it was clear which direction Emily In Paris was going. Fresh from Chicago without any worldly experience, having left her comfort zone, Emily is quick to get swept up in the excitement of such new ventures. Gabriel, in addition to Emily's job at Paris' Savior, is all a part of her new, albeit meant to be temporary, life in Paris. She has a year to enjoy the city and get swept away in all new the things before she returns home. But what fun would Emily In Paris have been without romantic complications? This is where Gabriel, Camille, and eventually Alfie enter the picture.

But, after three seasons, the love triangle centered around Emily and her feelings for Gabriel continue to play a role at the center of the show, and it is time that comes to an end. While some love triangles can keep up the excitement due to the chemistry or intrigue of the characters, Gabriel is just too boring of a person to hold up his end. While Emily hones in on a bubbly personality, Camille adds her own charms, and Alfie has his own brand of charisma; it seems to fall flat when Gabriel is meant to be a male lead.

Gabriel Is Boring

The show's male lead, Gabriel, is perhaps the most boring person Emily In Paris has to offer. While everyone else is snarky, witty, charismatic, or bubbly, Gabriel's entire personality seems to surround cooking and being good-looking. At the same time, Gabriel showed a little wistfulness at his potential future as a chef with a family of his own one day, which did not add anything to his overall personality. In season three, he is still as bland as he was from the moment he was introduced in season one. As one of the options in a love triangle, his presence makes no sense if the reason Emily was so torn came from the depth of her options. While in Camille's case, she has known him for years, someone as fun as her is still miles ahead in personality than Gabriel, so what are two charismatic women doing placing someone as dull as Gabriel in the middle?

He is just there and never really seems to add anything other than the acknowledgment of conflict for Emily. Emily and Gabriel's will-they-won't-they hanging in the air might be more interesting if Gabriel seemed more willing to put himself out there rather than choosing Camille and then drunkenly admitting to being in love with Emily later. If Emily had to choose between two men, it makes almost no sense that she would pick Gabriel over any man with a personality. Instead, it seems Gabriel is more of a symbol of a life she is excited about rather than having fallen in love with Gabriel as a person. He represents a whole new world, which is exciting in its own right. But Gabriel himself is not nearly as thrilling.

It's Getting Repetitive

How many times can Emily not entirely be sure about a new love interest if Gabriel is around? In multiple season-enders, Emily's relationship with Gabriel is still heavily hinted at but never seems to officially become romantic. If Emily In Paris wants Emily and Gabriel to be together, just put them together rather than drawing it out. Watching them crash and burn or succeed would be more exciting than what has become a predictable string of watching close calls, almosts, and more sets of minimal conflicts.

Emily and Gabriel acknowledge their history at the beginning of season three, and afterward, Emily's relationship with Alfie gets a slightly bigger spotlight. But Gabriel is still there, in a very present place in her life. The difficulties surrounding handling the situation regarding Camille's feelings also play a role. However, even the fallout of Emily's friendship with Camille in response to what is occurring with Gabriel is still more interesting than Gabriel's relationships with either of them.

The entire love triangle centering around Emily and Gabriel has gone on for too long. Let them try to be together and see what happens or put their feelings in the past for good. But, these bonds are not strong enough to keep a love triangle going, as they have barely kept it exciting the past three seasons.

The Season Three Cliffhanger

As of the conclusion of season three, it seems Emily and Gabriel may have missed their chance to be together anyway, which is just as good a place to leave it, and their feelings for each other, firmly in the past. Camille shockingly leaves her and Gabriel's spontaneous wedding, announcing that Gabriel never had a proper choice in the matter of choosing her over Emily. She also calls out that Gabriel is still in love with Emily and rushes out, which is immediately followed by Alfie announcing his leave. This leaves Gabriel and Emily in a potentially open place to get together until Gabriel reveals Camille is pregnant. If Camille chooses to keep the baby, what does that mean for everyone?

Camille had already begun stepping away from Gabriel as she explored her newly awakened potential romance. Meanwhile, does Alfie stepping away mean his role in the love triangle is done? Well, he still has a job connected to Gabriel and Emily. Meanwhile, other than confirming that she still has feelings for Gabriel, it is not entirely clear what Emily's decision would be moving forward.
