Disney’s Encanto is the 60th film in studio's catalog of animated movies. It’s full of magic and quirks that make it feel different from any other film in Disney’s line-up. The film tells the story of the close-knit Madrigal family, who live in a magical part of Colombia where each member of the family possesses a unique gift that is used to help their village thrive.

Family is an integral theme of Encanto. As the plot develops, we learn of the complex Madrigal family dynamics, where not everything is really as it first seems. Indeed, the characters of Encanto are all deeply connected to one another and certainly look out for one another, however, they each harbor personal truths that, for the sake of family and duty, have long been buried. Here's a detailed look at the Madrigal family tree in Encanto.

Abuela Alma & Abuelo Pedro Madrigal

Alma Madrigal is the head of the family in Encanto. We discover that she started her life with Pedro Madrigal, but their relationship was cut short not long after the birth of their triplets due, per Screen Rant, to the Thousand Days War that ravaged Colombia in the 1950s. Pedro sacrifices himself after a group of marauders descends upon his family, buying them time to escape. This event ultimately led to the creation of the enchanted mountains and Casa Madrigal. Abuela does not have a magical ability, however, she serves as a guide for her family and keeps them all in order.

Abuela Alma’s oldest triplet is Julieta, who gives off a nurturing vibe that perfectly complements her power to create food that can heal anyone who eats it. We see this when her husband, Agustín, sustains injuries that she can heal with her magical dishes. She and her husband have three children: Isabela, Luisa, and Mirabel, each of whom play important roles in Encanto. Julieta is next in line to lead the Madrigal family after Alma, and her caring and attentive disposition makes her perfect for the role.

Pepa & Félix Madrigal

Pepa Madrigal is Abuela’s second-oldest tripley. She is regularly surrounded by clouds, rain, hail, and other disruptive forms of weather. She possesses the power to control the weather, but we see her regularly struggle to do this. This is because her power is linked to her emotions, which are sometimes difficult for her to harness, and sometimes the outcome is not what she was looking for. Her husband, Félix, is completely opposite to her, with his warmth and positivity, effectively balancing her out. The couple have three children: Dolores, Camilo, and Antonio, the latter of whom receives his gift in Encanto, thus ushering in a new generation of the Madrigal family.

Bruno Madrigal

Bruno Madrigal is the youngest of the triplets, and is a very misunderstood character. He spends years in hiding and is rediscovered later in Encanto. He is deeply insecure and socially awkward, however, he’s inherently a good person who wants the best for his family. He is able to see into the future, a power that proves to be both a blessing and a curse. So far, Bruno is the only Madrigal triplet who is unmarried and has no children.
