Nostalgia is king, and actor and comedian Pauly Shore has now teased the return of one of his most beloved outings in an Encino Man sequel. Speaking with Inverse, Shore revealed that there are discussions for Encino Man 2 now taking place, with the actor adding that, so long as the script is right and Brendan Fraser and Sean Astin are also on board, he would return for a sequel on Disney+.

"I know Disney+ is talking about possibly doing the sequel. If they want me to do it and the script was right and Brendan and Sean were on board and it made sense, I would do it for the fans! It's what [screenwriter] George [Zaloom] has been working on. So ask him about it."

Not only is Pauly Shore potentially up for more, but so is screenwriter George Zaloom. Also present for the discussion, Zaloom could not help but be cryptic in his response, but did tease that fans “may be pleasantly surprised.”

"If you ask me 'Is there going to be another Encino Man?' — I don't know! I'm not going to say yes. I'm not going to say no. We may be pleasantly surprised."

The first, and so far only, Encino Man follows California teen Dave Morgan, played by Sean Astin, who is digging a pit for a pool in his backyard when he happens upon a caveman, played by Brendan Fraser, frozen in a block of ice. Aided by his goofy friend Stoney, played by Pauly Shore, Dave transports their discovery to his garage, where the Neanderthal thaws and is revived. When Dave and Stoney find the living and thoroughly bewildered caveman, they attempt to pass him off as a foreign exchange student named Link, resulting in all manner of zany misadventures.

Encino Man was, to put it lightly, not well-received by critics, but has since gone on to attain cult status. Thanks to this, discussions about a potential sequel have been going on for some time, and it sounds like those discussions may finally have reached the offices at Disney.

Whether Encino Man 2 Happens is Up to the Fans

This is far from the first time that Pauly Shore has talked about the possibility of an Encino Man sequel, with the actor saying previously that really, it’s up to the fans. "You know, it's really up to the fans because Disney+ knows about it and the producer, George [Zaloom], I know is wanting to do it. I know Brendan and Sean would probably do it if the script was right,” Shore said last month. “There's a love for that movie to this day... Several years later, people realize, 'Wait a minute. This was actually a really fun, funny film. It's really held up for me.' Those movies, people can make fun of them and the industry or whatever, but they've been putting food on my table for years and making people happy. There is a huge audience out there that really enjoys those... It was a point in time where I hit, where MTV was the hottest thing in the world, when everyone was looking at MTV, and I was right there. I was young, and it was awesome. It was pretty cool. It was a fun run."
