Entertainment One has grabbed domestic distribution rights to Steven Bernstein's directorial debut Decoding Annie Parker. Samantha Morton and Helen Hunt star alongside Bradley Whitford and Rashida Jones.

The film is loosely based on the life of cancer survivor Annie Parker (Samantha Morton) and geneticist Mary-Claire King (Helen Hunt). Along with having to deal with the deadly disease, Annie Parker suffers through the death of her father and sister and her cheating husband. Something positive does come out of the situation when Mary-Claire discovers a gene mutation that revolutionizes understanding and treatment of certain types of breast cancer.

eOne Films US Senior Vice President and General Manager Dylan Wiley had this to say about the project.

"Steven has created a gripping, poignant and inspiring film that champions the strength of the human spirit and beautifully captures both the emotional challenges and unexpected wit of those who are faced with hardship. This is a story that will connect deeply with audiences, and we are happy to bring this film to theatres nationwide."

Director Steven Bernstein also commented on the acquisition.

"It took seven years to make Decoding Annie Parker, which started out as a film project, and evolved into a cause for everyone involved, including the extraordinary cast. Both on screen on off, Annie Parker and Mary-Claire King have become beacons of hope and inspiration, and it is so gratifying to find in eOne a distributor that understands the important, funny, and uplifting message of this film."

The film is slated for release in theaters and VOD next summer.
