Hot off the heels of his success with Furious 7, which has already taken in over $1.1 billion worldwide, James Wan is returning to the horror genre once again to produce a remake of the 1983 thriller The Entity. Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes, who wrote the script for James Wan's 2013 hit The Conjuring, are at work on the screenplay. James Wan will also produce alongside another horror veteran, Roy Lee, who produced the American remake of The Ring and its upcoming sequel Rings.

The Entity is based on the true story of Carla Moran, who was physically and sexually abused by a supernatural demon. Barbara Hershey played Carla in the original 1983 film, with Ron Silver playing a doctor who thinks the woman is actually abusing herself and is experiencing delusions from a troubled past. David Labiosa, George Coe and Margaret Blye rounded out the supporting cast. The original movie was based on the novel of the same name by Frank De Filetta, that was inspired by events that took place in 1974.

James Wan is not attached to direct The Entity remake, since he starts shooting The Conjuring 2 this fall, which currently has a June 10, 2016 release date in place. Chad Hayes and Carey Hayes also wrote the script for The Conjuring 2, along with last year's spinoff Annabelle and other thrillers such as House of Wax and The Reaping. Roy Lee also produced the upcoming horror reboot Poltergeist, which is set for release on May 22.
