A24 has released the official trailer for Equals. This futuristic thriller is directed by Drake Doremus. It pairs Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult for the first time on the big screen. It promises to be one of the more unique indie dramas coming this summer. Equals hits select theaters on July 15.

Kristen Stewart and Nicholas Hoult are embroiled in an illicit romance in this methodical sci-fi tale. Deadline reports that the movie is set to screen at the Tribeca Film Festival, marking its debut in the U.S. The movie made its worldwide debut at Venice last year.

Nia and Silas are two members of a futuristic utopian society known as 'The Collective'. Here, violence has been wiped out, and crime is a thing of the past. This is all thanks to genetic engineering. In tampering with the human genome, scientists have also managed to wipe out most human emotion, especially love. But as Equals sets out to prove, love is no crime,

Silas quitely falls for Nia. The two can't help but notice a growing attraction between them. This quickly leads the pair into a forbidden relationship. At first it is tentative. Soon, it explodes into a passionate romance. And Nia and Silas find it hard to keep their mutual attraction for one another from suspicious superiors and their co-workers.

The new couple are forced to choose between The Collective, where they are safe from the many dangers in this futuristic life, or risk it all and pull off an almost impossible escape. Nathan Parker wrote the screenplay. Also starring in the movie are Guy Pearce, Jacki Weaver, Bel Powley and Kate Lyn Sheil. Equals is produced by Michael Schaefer, Michael Pruss, Ann Ruark, Jay Stern and Chip Diggins. This thrilling romantic adventure will be going up against the Ghostbusters reboot on July 15, as well as the wide releases The Infiltrator starring Bryan Cranston and Diane Kruger and The Lake starring Sullivan Stapleton and |J.K. Simmons. Equals is available early exclusively on DirecTV starting May 26.
