Eric Roberts may be playing the same character in The Dark Knight that Dennis Paladino portrayed in Batman Forever, but he insists he will offer his own take on the character. SCI-FI Wire caught up to Roberts and asked him if his portrayal of Salvatore "Boss" Moroni would be similar to Paladino's, to which Roberts asserted it would be different.

"Not at all, because I'm not him," Roberts said. "Why would I try to do that? I would hope he would give himself the same respect and work the other way around as well."

In the comics, Moroni is one of Gotham City's most ruthless gangsters, and in many versions of the story, is the man responsible for transforming Harvey Dent (played in The Dark Knight by Aaron Eckhart) into Two-Face. With Eckhart's Dent featuring so prominently in The Dark Knight, and early indications suggesting that the transformation from DA into super-villain will occur in this film, expect Roberts to have some hand in that act.

The Dark Knight opens on July 18, 2008, and stars Christian Bale, Heath Ledger, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Aaron Eckhart and Maggie Gylenhall.
