New Line Cinema has hired Ericson Core (Invincible) to direct Conrail, produced by Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson's Contrafilm. The studio has been developing the project since obtaining life rights two years ago to the story of Eddie Mongon, who spent a decade as a modern-day Robin Hood.

According to Varieety, Mongon was the ringleader of the Conrail Boyz gang, which robbed trains using a combination of high-tech equipment and street smarts, and then shared the proceeds with the poor of Hoboken, N.J. Mongon was arrested in 2004.

Core will supervise a rewrite of Chris Murphey's script. He's attached to direct Touchstone action thriller "Liberty" for producer Sean Bailey along with a biopic of Stylianos Kyriakides, who won the 1946 Boston Marathon after escaping execution during the Nazi occupation of Greece, for Invincible producers Gordon Gray and Mark Ciardi.
