The Crow will always be remembered for the accidental shooting of actor Brandon Lee, and for that reason popular Ghostbusters star Ernie Hudson does not really want to see any remakes of the movie. The film was released in 1994, and starred 28 year old Lee in the role of Eric Draven, a musician who returns from the dead to avenge the death of himself and his fiancée. Ernie Hudson played police sergeant Daryl Albrecht, a cop who aids Draven in his mission.

While speaking to Looper, Hudson was asked about his thoughts on the upcoming remake of The Crow, which stars Bill Skarsgard set to take the lead role. While he was under no illusions that this kind of remake is just the “Hollywood business”, Hudson made it clear that there is a reason he had not been part of any other Crow-related movies or shows. He said:

“When the accident happened – I guess I can call it an accident – it was unworldly. It was very hard to process. I still have a hard time processing it… When they decide to make another Crow…For me, The Crow ended with Brandon Lee. He was The Crow. I’m done.”

Hudson was previously asked about reprising his role in the short-lived 1998 TV series based on the franchise, but declined the offer. He continued:

"It was hard enough to go back and finish [the movie after Lee died]. This is a business that’s about money so, yeah, I’m not surprised. But when Brandon died, that was it. They did a couple of other sequels that I didn’t see. Like I said, it’s a business, I understand that, but Brandon was The Crow and that’s it for me. I like Skarsgard. I like his stuff; he’s a good actor. I’m sure if he can make it his own and not try to redo it, do something original with it, I’m sure it’ll probably work.“

It has taken a long time for The Crow to get a reboot. Having originally been discussed in 2008, the wheels only really started moving in the last year. The new version of the story will be directed by Rupert Sanders and is written by King Richard and Creed III scribe Zach Baylin. Skarsgard is just one of the many actors who were linked to the lead role during its many years in development. Others previously linked to the role have included Luke Evans, Bradley Cooper and even Aquaman star Jason Momoa, but as production times have extended, actors have come and gone.

When discussing the iconic image of The Crow, director Sanders spoke of his vision for the franchise, and it is all about developing the dark tale of loss in a new way. He said:

“The Crow is beautiful, dark, poetic and sometimes disturbing,” Sanders said of his vision for The Crow in a statement. “It is a story of love, loss, grief, and revenge. It is a great honor to revisit James O’Barr’s iconic comic and reimagine The Crow as a foreboding voice of today.”

The Crow has yet to be given a release date but reportedly entered post-production last month.
