With his Ghostbusters co-star Bill Murray making his arrival to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Ant-Man 3, Ernie Hudson is wondering when he's going to get the chance to answer the call. As of now, Hudson has yet to make his way to the superhero movie universe, but as the films and Disney+ shows continue to get churned out, it may just be a matter of time before that opportunity will come along. And when that call comes, Hudson will be ready.

The actor spoke about his potential entrance in the MCU in a new interview with ComicBook.com. As a friend of MCU executive producer Louis D'Esposito, Hudson has asked about the chance to get a role on more than one occasion, but he keeps getting told that Marvel's just waiting for the right role for him to come along. Hudson hopes that mystery role comes soon enough as he'd very much love to join the MCU.

"Louis D'Esposito has been a friend for a while, and I keep saying, You know, 'Louis, you know, the Marvel universe.' 'We're waiting for the right thing', so maybe they're still waiting for the right thing. But, yeah, it would be. I would love to. Also because now when I look back at things, I think about my grandkids and great-grandkids, and I think, you know, those are movies they're gonna watch for a long time."

Hopefully, when Hudson does get that potential phone call, it will also be for a sizable role rather than a special cameo that only requires one day of work. Those jobs might pay well, but as an accomplished actor, the Oz star is eager to delve into something a bit deeper.

"I just would love to work. A lot of the work I get offered is things that people say, well, you know, we love your work, we want you to be in it. But we only need you for a day or two, and I'm like, it shouldn't work in a day or two. I'm looking for a role. I'm looking for something that and I want to, you know, romantic comedy where I get the girl or the guy or whatever. I want to work while I'm physically able and mentally capable of bringing them my best work. So that's what I'm looking for. Just to get another credit for a couple of dollars, it's really not that motivating for me. I'm good that way. So I'm looking for that, a reason to leave home."

Ernie Hudson May Have More Screen Time as Winston in the Next Ghostbusters Movie

Ghostbusters Afterlife
Sony Pictures Releasing

We will see if Kevin Feige gets around to getting in touch with the actor, but in any case, Hudson is not through just yet with Ghostbusters. He recently provided a positive update on the sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife, stating that he's happy with a version of the screenplay that he's read. Hudson also previously spoke about how much he hopes to see Winston get more time to shine in the Afterlife sequel, perhaps serving as a mentor to the new team of Ghostbusters. He even suggested Winston could serve as the Nick Fury of the Ghostbusters franchise.

“Clearly it’s a new family’s movie so I don’t know if any of the old Ghostbusters can be major players - but being involved as mentors in some way would be a lot of fun," he said, via Yahoo. "[Winston] certainly seems set up to be a part of it. He understands the Ghostbusters better than anyone. He’s almost like Sam Jackson’s character in the Marvel [Cinematic] Universe. Whatever comes out of it, I’d love to see Winston connected to it."

Time will tell what happens with the MCU, but chances are we will see Winston appear in some capacity when the Ghostbusters: Afterlife sequel is released on Dec. 20, 2023.
