According to The Hollywood Reporter, ESPN said Thursday that it has greenlighted an original movie titled Ruffian, based on the true story of the legendary racehorse. But in a twist, the movie will actually make its premiere on ABC, followed by airings on a number of different platforms within a four-day period.
Ruffian, focusing on the legendary thoroughbred filly and produced under the ESPN Original Entertainment banner, will premiere on ABC in conjunction with the network's presentation of the Belmont Stakes in June 2007. ESPN will then air the movie -- slated to begin principal photography in late February -- in primetime. Additionally, the movie will air on the Internet via broadband on ESPN360 and in high definition on ESPNHD and also will be available via video-on-demand and released on DVD, all within a four-day period in June 2007.
