It's looking like Eternals might be getting a sequel. According to Patton Oswalt, who voiced Pip the Troll in the original movie, a sequel is in the works with Chloe Zhao returning to direct. During an appearance on The Today Show this week, Oswalt was asked about his involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The actor and comedian then claimed that Eternals 2 is in the works and teased that he might be returning as Pip alongside Harry Styles' Starfox.

"Harry Styles and I are in a little post-credit sequence in Eternals," Oswalt said. "I play Pip the Troll, he plays Starfox, Thanos's brother."

He added, "They have announced there's going to be an Eternals sequel Chloe Zhao is going to direct it. So, hopefully, there will be more adventures of Starfox and Pip."

Oswalt could be speaking to what he knows of the project from behind the scenes, but, officially, Marvel Studios has not made the announcement that Eternals 2 is a go. Perhaps that could have been a reveal that the studio was looking to save for the upcoming D23 Expo. As of now, the studio hasn't commented on Oswalt letting it slip that a sequel is happening.

Will Pip Return in Eternals 2?

Patton Oswalt just might return if Eternals 2 really is happening, and that would be good news for fans who enjoyed the surprise appearance from Pip in the first film's post-credit sequence. The actor has even garnered the endorsement of Pip the Troll's creator, Jim Starlin, who told ComicBook.com that Oswalt was the perfect casting choice for this role.

"Oh, yeah, I think he's perfect for it," Starlin said. "I got a real kick out of his voicing over M.O.D.O.K. in that cartoon series. I watched the first one and I went, 'Eh, it's okay. And then I watched the second one, then I got hooked and just laughed my ass throughout the rest of it.' Now, Patton's always been a character actor who I think has got terrific range, and I think his voice is just perfect for [Pip]."

On how he'd been lobbying for Pip to appear in the MCU long before it finally happened, Starlin added, "Every time I've seen Kevin Feige over the last two years, I have been lobbying for Pip. And obviously, I have more influence than I thought [laughs]. But the truth of the matter is, they work on these things years ahead, so he's probably been chuckling up his sleeve every time in recent years when I've seen him and said, 'Hey, when are we going to see Pip?' And he'll mutter something because he knew it was coming all along."

It remains to be seen if Pip the Troll returns in the MCU, but after Oswalt saying that Eternals 2 is in the works, perhaps we'll hear an official word from Marvel Studios with more information soon.
