Similar to the release of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Marvel’s Eternals will be coming to Disney+ in the near future. The Chloe Zhao Marvel spectacle will make its debut on the streaming platform on January 12th, in line with the 45 days minimum theatrical exclusive window set out by Disney earlier in the year as per Streaming Guider. The film was originally released on November 5th, and has become another huge hit for Marvel Studios despite being stung with a lot of early negativity and dropping to the lowest rated Marvel Cinematic Universe movie on Rotten Tomatoes.

Eternals was one of the unknown entities in Phase 4 of the MCU, with its cast of new characters, galactic Celestials and seemingly very few links to anything that has gone before in the Marvel story. However, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige had already announced that this Phase is all about new beginnings, and he certainly wasn’t wrong when it came to Eternals. With a huge ensemble cast of Gemma Chan, Richard Madden, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Brian Tyree Henry, Lauren Ridloff, Barry Keoghan, Angelina Jolie, Don Lee, and even features a cameo appearance from Harry Styles, bringing so many characters to screen in one movie is no mean feat, but it also means that story is constantly moving to give them all equal screen time.

The film currently has the lowest rating of any Marvel movie on Rotten Tomatoes, including the much-maligned Thor: The Dark World, but that doesn’t seem to have made any difference to fans of the Cinematic Universe which just continues to grow and expand like nothing else ever seen in the history of cinemas. With Spider-Man: No Way Home heading our way in December and looking to round out the year with a mega-hit for Feige and Co., it is almost like theaters are very quickly getting back to something like normality. How Spidey fares at the box office will be the biggest indicator of just how far audiences are willing to return for the big screen experience in the last few months.

Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso made reference to the hefty volume of negative reviews while appearing at the Outfest Legacy Awards. As reported by Variety, Alonso was presented with the Visionary Award at the event, which took place on Saturday night at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures, and while delivering a speech about LGBTQ+ equality, she commented:

"We have tried to stir it up and sometimes the critics are not with us. That's OK. That's OK. We thank you for being a critic. We thank you for writing about us. And the fans will decide. Diversity and inclusion is not a political game for us. It is 100 percent a responsibility because you don't get to have the global success that we have given the Walt Disney Company without the support of people around the world of every kind of human there is."

While all eyes are currently focused on the arrival of Spider-Man: No Way Home in less than a month, Eternals continues to do well at the box office and is currently sitting just outside the top ten movies based on worldwide gross.
