HBO's Euphoria has been breaking records this year as Season 2 of the hit series sees its viewership double the first season, according to Variety. With stunning visuals, a breathtaking soundtrack, and a lot of drama, it is no wonder why Euphoria is getting popular every week.

The Euphoria Season 2 premiere, which aired Jan. 9, has drawn 13.1 million viewers across HBO and HBO Max to date, with Episodes 2 and 3 tracking similarly. That is close to +100% of the 6.6 million average audience size that was drawn by Season 1 episodes in-season during summer 2019. Its season 2 premiere even led to HBO Max shutting down due to the high volume of viewers.

This Sunday episode 4 of Season 2, You Who Cannot See, Think of Those Who Can, drew 3.2 million viewers across three linear airings on HBO and streams on HBO Max. That makes it the second-most-watched episode ever, only behind Episode 3 of Season 2, which drew 3.6 million viewers on Jan. 23. Viewership for the premiere night of Episode 4 was up 166% vs. the Sunday night viewership of Season 1’s fourth episode. Up until its fourth episode, Euphoria Season 2 hit a new series high in viewership each week since its Jan. 9 premiere.

The second season so far has given us an array of drama with not one but two love triangles between Cassie, Maddy, and Nate, and Rue, Jules, and Elliot. Eric Dane’s Cal, who plays Nate’s dad, gets a heartbreaking back story this season despite not very many people showing sympathy for the character. Lastly, we also see a budding romance between the shy theater kid Lexi and the infamous drug dealer Fezco, an unusual but cute pairing. In its latest episode, the show also included an epic lover's montage with Rue and Jules portraying iconic lovers in popular culture. For example, Jules in Botticelli’s 1480s painting The Birth of Venus, then as Frida Kahlo with Rue drawn onto her forehead, Titanic's Jack and Rose, Brokeback Mountain's Jack and Ennis, Yoko Ono and John Lennon, and an animated version of Snow White and Prince Charming.

The show is created, written, directed, and exec produced by Sam Levinson. Euphoria airs every Sunday on HBO Max.
