More backlash has been created as a result of the contentious Johnny Depp and Amber Heard trial, this time leveled at Euphoria star Dominic Fike. A singer-songwriter who made his acting debut this year with the hit HBO series, Fike had recently been performing at a concert at Northern University in Evanston, Illinois. During his set, Fike had taken a pause from performing to speak to the audience, and while his reasons for this aren't clear, he chose to bring up the defamation trial.Per Entertainment Tonight, Fike said that he found Heard to be "hot" after watching the trial. What's more, the singer and actor joked that he has visions of getting beaten by Heard as a result of having this opinion. His comments, which were captured in a video that has since gone viral, resulted in people in attendance booing Fike, who seems to take the hint by dropping the discussion and moving forward with the show.
In the video, Fike says:
"Yo, so I'm just gonna come straight out and say it. I'ma come out and say it. I'ma be real with y'all.I think Amber Heard is hot, dude. I know it's not a popular opinion and it's not the focus at the moment, dude, but I've been having these visions of her just beating me up. I think it's hot."
"Making light and romanticizing domestic violence is so weird," reads one tweet in response to the video.
"That sh*t he be smoking on Euphoria is actually affecting him in real life," another person stated.
Others Have Come Under Fire for Joking About the Trial
With such a high-profile, televised trial involving two well-known celebrities, Depp v Heard has gotten a lot of attention, for better or for worse. One problematic Saturday Night Live sketch took aim at the trial, poking fun at the allegation that Heard had soiled the marital bed after an argument with Depp. Depp's courtroom behavior, including his smirking, was also mocked in the sketch. This resulted in fans of both Depp and Heard criticizing SNL for making light of domestic violence, regardless of which party is telling the truth.
Drew Barrymore had also referred to the trial as a "seven layer dip of insanity" on her daytime talk show. she later apologized and clarified that she did not mean to offend anyone after noticing some complaints about the joke.
"It has come to my attention that I have offended people with making light of Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, and for that, I just want to deeply apologize, and appreciate everyone who spoke out because this can be a teachable moment for me, and how I move forward, and how I conduct myself," Barrymore said in a video posted to Instagram.
She added, "I can be a more thoughtful and better person moving forward because all I want to do is be a good person. I very much appreciate the depth of this, and I will grow and change from it. And I thank everyone for helping me grow along the way and teaching me. Thank you.”
