As well as celebrating her 41st birthday today, Eva Green is also marking her 20th year in the entertainment industry this year. Fans were showing the French actress a lot of love on social media with memories of some of her most iconic roles. The actress appeared in two French productions before making her film debut in 2003's The Dreamers, and three years later she landed the role of Vesper Lynd in Daniel Craig's first outing as James Bond, Casino Royale, which earned her a BAFTA Rising Star Award.

Green has starred in many genres of movie and TV series, not holding herself down to one type of production and happy to appear in both independent films as well as Hollywood blockbusters. She appeared in the lesser known Cracks, Womb and Perfect Sense in 2009, 2010 and 2011 respectively. She also starred in the big budget sequels to 300 and Sin City, but also became known for a series of collaborations with Tim Burton.

Her first role under Burton's direction was as Angelique Bouchard in Dark Shadows, followed by the titular Miss Peregrine in Miss Peregrine' Home for Peculiar Children, and in Disney's live action Dumbo remake. Having appeared with Johnny Depp in Dark Shadows, she would later be one of his strongest supporters when Amber Heard's allegations of domestic abuse against him became public. She was also one of the people who spoke out against Harvey Weinstein, when she revealed in 2017 that he had made an inappropriate advance on her during a meeting which she had rejected.

One of her prominent roles on TV was as the possessed Vanessa Ives in three series' of Penny Dreadful. The Showtime horror series saw Green teaming up with former Bond actor Timothy Dalton in a gory Victorian-set story that incorporated the mythologies of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Picture of Dorian Gray and other classic horrors of the 19th century into one narrative. The series ran for three seasons, with Green being hailed by many as the savior of the series. Like many of her more adult roles, Green is never afraid to shed her clothes when required, and that was no truer than in Penny Dreadful, which resulted in her army of fans growing hugely.

In recent years Green has received personal recognition when she was appointed as a Chevalier of the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, an honorary award given by the French government, in 2018. The following year she appeared in the French drama Proxima which gained her a nomination for the Cesar Award for Best Actress. She was also announced as lead in the sci-fi thriller A Patriot in 2018, but in 2020 she sued the production company, White Lantern Film, when they refused to settle her $1.04 million pay or play contract after the movie was abandoned. However, the company in turn launched a legal case against the actress, who they argued owes them over $1.3 million for walking away from the project.

While her on screen appearances have been pretty scarce of late, there is no doubt that Eva Green has still got a loyal following. With so many birthday wishes, many of them clearly don't want her to stay away from the cameras for too long.
