As the heated Depp v Heard defamation trial continues, Eva Green has offered some public support for Johnny Depp. Back in 2016, Depp's ex-wife, Amber Heard, publicly accused the actor of domestic violence. This was followed by Heard writing an op-ed in 2018 for The Washington Post describing herself as a domestic abuse survivor. Depp is suing Heard for $50 million, arguing that she was actually his abuser and had fabricated her abuse claims in order to damage his career. Heard is counter-suing for $100 million, insisting she's telling the truth.

Though Depp and Heard have been accusing one another of physical and emotional abuse, neither one has been found guilty in a court of law. With that said, a majority of the public seems to be leaning towards Depp's version of events based on the evidence that has been put on display during the trial. Green, who previously co-starred with Depp in Tim Burton's Dark Shadows film in 2012, has just publicly taken Depp's side as well, posting to Instagram about her confidence that the embattled actor will be vindicated by the time the trial is over.

"I have no doubt Johnny will emerge with his good name and wonderful heart revealed to the world, and life will be better than it ever was for him and his family," Green wrote alongside a photograph from years before of her and Depp.

While the televised Depp v Heard trial has brought more attention than ever to the marital problems between the famous former couple, it has something many people have been following for years. Depp previously sued New Group Newspapers in the UK over an article in The Sun referring to him as a "wife-beater" because of Heard's allegations. The actor ultimately lost that case, but he is suing Heard directly in the United States where it will be up to a jury to decide who wins.

For years, many fans of Depp have been using the hashtag #JusticeForJohnnyDepp on social media to bring more awareness to the situation. They argue that the evidence is on his side and that it was unfair for him to be fired from major franchise roles, including Pirates of the Caribbean 6 and Fantastic Beasts 3. Believing Depp to be innocent of the accusations, these fans want Amber Heard to take responsibility for allegedly fabricating her abuse claims while restoring Depp's name and status in Hollywood.

Before the trial, there had been a popular petition online for Heard to be fired from her role in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, as the same studio had asked Depp to resign from Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. It had managed to climb to 1.8 million signatures. In the weeks since the trial began, that number has more than doubled in size with the petition recently flying past 4 million signatures.

Defamation trials are notoriously hard to win, but regardless of the outcome, Eva Green just might be right that Depp will emerge from the proceedings in a much better place than he has been for years, thanks to the increasing support he is getting from fans and observers of the trial.
