Early on, it seemed that Evan Rachel Wood's casting as Mary Jane Watson for Julie Taymor's Broadway show Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, with the actress singing foe early previews of the show. However, with casting announcements saying that they were looking to cast the role, that has come under question. MTV spoke to the red-headed actress, who had previously worked with director Taymor in Across the Universe, and she clarified where they were with the casting."Nothing's definite yet, but that's the plan," Wood explained. "I'm doing everything I can to make sure that happens. I think it's going to happen."

Although she doesn't have the role completely locked down yet, Wood did offer up some thoughts on the nature of the show. "[Director Julie Taymor] is bringing it to a whole different level," said Wood. "It's just like with The Lion King. You wonder what she's going to do with The Lion King, and then you see it and it's beyond belief. [Spider-Man] is not going to be a singing guy in tights - it's more like a rock and roll circus show."

Wood also suggested that Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark wouldn't follow any previously told Spider-Man stories, saying "If Julie's going to make something, she's going to make it her own."
