300 writer Michael Gordon has been tapped to write the theatrical adaptation of the popular videogame EverQuest. According to Variety, Sony plans on releasing the film by 2009.

Former Marvel Studio president Avi Arad is producing the film for Columbia Pictures. The plot of the multiplayer game revolves around the world of Norrath, where players interact with other players and fight off creatures while going on quests for treasure. The game stood as the most popular role playing videogame from 2000 to 2004, before World of Warcraft launched.

The film does not have a set start date at this time, but will likely go before the cameras in early 2008.
