As the future Sophie (Kim Cattrall) promised us on the pilot episode of How I Met Your Father, present-day Sophie (Hilary Duff) will meet a lot of men before she settles down with her future son's dad. By the looks of it right now, the show seems to be making good on that promise. After a long delay, the show that follows the adventures of Millennial New Yorkers in the age of online dating, has been given the green light by the Hulu network for a second, 20-episode season.

Head of scripted content for Hulu Originals, Jordan Helman, told Deadline in 2022, "[Series writers] Isaac [Aptaker] and Elizabeth [Berger] 's inspired vision for How I Met Your Father has proven to be true appointment viewing that fans cannot get enough of week to week. The lives of these characters, as portrayed by the immensely talented cast led by Hilary Duff, are just starting to unfold, and we're thrilled to bring more of this group's journey to our viewers with a supersized second season."

Now that it's confirmed we're getting another season let us tell you everything we want to see in this legend -- wait for it -- dary show!

The season 1 finale is expected to drop around mid-March 2022, which means that it will be a long time until we see How I Met Your Father season 2 on our screens.

We do not expect the second season to drop before 2023, at the very earliest, late 2022.

Plot: What Can We Expect?

How I Met Your Father is pretty much set up in the same universe as its predecessor, CBS network's How I Met Your Mother. The main character Sophie tells her son the story of how she met his father. According to the storyline so far, future Sophie narrates the story to her son in 2050 and takes us back to the year 2021, where Sophie and her close group of friends are navigating through life in their late 20s and early 30s. They are figuring out who they are and what they want out of life, and romantic relationships in the age of online dating and countless options.

In an interview with TVLine, Duff went on to explain that How I Met Your Father is "really not the same show, by any means. Sophie is not Ted, and there's not someone trying to be Barney." Duff noted that this series places a stronger emphasis on the female perspective, which both Craig Thomas and Carter Bays (creators and executive producers) have been entirely supportive of.

It’d be safe to say not to expect an ending anything like its predecessor in terms of what to expect. Showrunners Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger have stated that they've not filmed the show's ending storyline already as they did for How I Met Your Mother back in its second season itself. And as they've already revealed in the pilot episode, one of the four guys is definitely the father.

Presumably, How I Met Your Father will drop clues about the father's identity throughout its run. In the meantime, viewers will watch Sophie meet many more guys until she finally discovers "The One."

How I Met Your Father Season 1 will run for ten episodes on the Hulu network every Tuesday.
