Apple TV’s critically acclaimed sports-comedy series Ted Lasso aired its season finale in October, but fans of the show are already clamoring for a new season. Featuring Jason Sudeikis as an affable American football coach who moves to England to train a soccer team, Ted Lasso has captured the attention of viewers and critics alike thanks to its heart and comedy. In fact, it is the anticipated show of 2022!

In season 2, we saw how Keeley became integral to helping Rebecca's dating life, we witnessed Jamie getting over his own pride to become a great player, and Nathan being promoted to assistant coach. As the season ended the fates of many team members of AFC Richmond were hanging in the balance.

So, what can we expect from season three? Here’s everything we know.

The producers of the show have yet to officially announce the cast of season three, but you can likely expect to see your favourite actors and characters return for the new season. Ted, played by former SNL castmember Jason Sudeikis, is most definitely coming back as the titular role and central node of the show. Similarly, Hannah Waddingham who plays team owner Rebecca Welton implied she'd be returning too during an appearance on The Late Late Show with James Cordon. Similarly, Ted Lasso co-creator, writer, and actor Brendan Hunt (who plays Coach Beard) will most likely return to the show to help the team against their new rival Coach Nate (Nick Mohammed), who will have to be back too. Hopefully, other familiar faces like Juno Temple's Keeley Jones, Brett Goldstein's Roy Kent, Jeremy Swift's Leslie Higgins, Cristo Fernández's Dani Rojas, Phil Dunster's Jamie Tartt, Billy Harris's Colin, Kola Bokinni’s Isaac, Toheeb Jimoh's Sam Obisanya, and Sarah Niles's Dr Sharon Fieldstone will all return.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the main stars of the Emmy-nominated comedy renegotiated their contract with producers Warner Bros. Television, who gave them all sizable pay increases. So at least we know that when the show returns, its stars will be richer and happier than ever.

Release Date of Ted Lasso Season 3

Very little is officially known about the release Ted Lasso Season 3, but there are a few hints that can help us piece together a timeline. For example, previous seasons of the show were released around the same time, during the summer, and there is no reason to believe the third season should be an exception. What's more, during that appearance on The Late Late Show with James Cordon, Hannah Waddingham mentioned that production is set to start on Valentine's Day 2022, which she described as "rather lovely." However, there could be some delays, as The Hollywood Reporter writes that the start of pre-production was moved from August to September as producers and writers negotiated contracts. Sources say that the writers' room officially began working on season three on September 13 of 2021. In the last few weeks, it has also been suggested that Sudeikis’ upcoming schedule could be the stumbling block when it comes to more Ted Lasso.

But Ted Lasso fans have a bit of solace as they wait for the return of the show, as Apple has given fans an early Christmas present with a fun and entertaining Ted Lasso stop-motion short. Based on the opening credits of Ted Lasso Season 2 episode "Carol of the Bells," the new short sees the central characters of the show on a search for Ted’s precious moustache which has gone missing.

In the third season, we will likely see the AFC Richmond gang return to the Premier League and the feud between Nate and Ted climaxing following the former's departure. The season 2 finale opened a whole new set of emotional problems for Keeley, Roy and Jamie, so this new season will probably give us some juicy personal drama along with the signature warm-hearted comedy that has made the show so popular.

The plot and future of Ted Lasso remain uncertain at the moment, but it is possible that this will be the final season of this popular story. Jason Sudeikis told Entertainment Weekly earlier this year that Ted Lasso was originally understood as a three-season story. "The story that's being told - that three-season arc - is one that I see, know, and understood," he said to EW. And this sentiment was echoed by co-star and co-creator Brendan Hunt, who has said,

I think it would be pretty cool if, in the face of how much everyone likes this show, that we stick to our guns and really just do three seasons. But even as committed to that idea as Jason may have been, none of us were prepared to the degree to which people love this show.

Hopefully, this means that even if the show ends next season, the ending will be planned and satisfying for the loyal fans of the show.
