Amazon's The Boys became a massive hit, especially after it dropped its second season on Prime Video in September 2020, a time when most of us were stuck at home social distancing because of the pandemic. Eric Kripke, also the well-known creator of the show Supernatural, has been tweeting a ton about the latest installment of this superhero satire series. And must we admit, we are all eager to see what's in store in this brand-new season.

While the first season itself was pretty well-received, the praise for the second season went through the roof, with the viewing numbers giving Disney+'s The Mandalorian season 2 and Netflix's Stranger Things a run for their money. If that wasn't enough, The Boys also was the first non-Netflix show that joined Nielsen Top 10 Streaming Shows list along with an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Drama Series. Its popularity led to a spin-off series that further explores the world of these out-of-control and corrupt supes.

So, with all this praise and glory, what should we be expecting from its third season?

The Boys Season 3 Plot: What to Expect?

A majority of the story details for the third season still seem to be a mystery. However, with everything that has happened in the season 2 finale and all the casting information so far, it's not too hard to guess what may be coming next. Aside from this season revolving heavily around Soldier Boy and his super-team Playback, the season 2 finale's big twist also gives away some main plots on season 3.

In the scene where Alastair Adana (Goran Višnjić), Church of the Collective leader, was assassinated, Victoria was revealed to be a supe. Not just any supe, she's the one who killed Susan Raynor (Jennifer Esposito), the C.I.A. Deputy Director, along with everyone in the court when their heads exploded spontaneously. "I don't want to say too much because there's a certain mystery in season 3 about exactly why Victoria is doing what she's doing," said Kripke. So, there's definitely something exciting brewing with Victoria.

Meanwhile, The Boys seem to have gone on their separate ways ever since they were pardoned for their crimes. The Seven never seem to actually maintain the seven members of their team, thanks to all The Boys' efforts. And we still don't know if The Deep will ever make it back into the good graces of the team, which means that there are two spots open.

What we do know for certain is that the first episode of season 3 is titled "Payback" and is written by Craig Robertson, as confirmed by showrunner Eric Kripke last October.

The Seven are back in town. This means Quaid, Urban, Laz Alonso (Mother's Milk), Karen Fukuhara (Kimiko), and Tomer Capon (Frenchie) will be returning as the covert militia group on a mission to keep the supes in check. And this means Jessie T. Usher (A-Train), Antony Starr (Homelander), Chase Crawford (The Deep), Dominique McElligott (Queen Maeve), and Nathan Mitchell (Black Noir) will also be returning as the main cast.

Claudia Doumit, who appeared in season 2 as Congresswoman Victoria Neuman, Colby Minifie, and Ashley Barrett, has been taken on as series regulars in this new season.

Aya Cash, who plays Stormfront, was defeated in the season 2 finale. However, we wouldn't be too sure that losing limbs would necessarily mean death. So, maybe Cash is still part of the series, but we will only know about it certainly when the third season premieres.

There are some newcomers in this season, too. Supernatural fame Jensen Ackles joins The Boys as Soldier Boy, and Laurie Holden of The Walking Dead will play the Crimson Countess, a member of Payback, the supe team led by the Soldier Boy. Best known for her roles on Sleepy Hollow and Dexter, Katia Winter will be guest starring in this season as Little Nina.

Since The Seven always seems to be short of a member or two, there's a high chance that there will be many supes wanting to fill that position, including Supersonic.

The Boys team has confirmed that the official premiere date for the third season is June 3, 2022. The filming for the latest season was kicked off on February 24, 2021, and wrapped on September 17, 2021. The reason for the time between the end of filming and the premiere date is mainly for the need for extensive special effects.

Unlike other O.T.T. platforms, The Boys changed the way they released the episodes between the first and second seasons. Unlike the first one that released all the episodes together, the second season's episodes were released weekly. There's enough reason to believe that the third season will follow the same pattern as the second season.
