It's your chance to escape the evil dead before they swallow your soul in the first officially licensed escape room in Seattle, WA, granted by Studiocanal S.A.S. through Creative Licensing, based on Sam Raimi's classic horror/comedy Evil Dead 2: Dead by Dawn.
When players enter that all-too-familiar cabin in the woods from the Evil Dead franchise, they will have until dawn (or 70 minutes, whichever comes first) to find the Kandarian dagger and destroy the book of the dead before the evil dead swallows their souls. Fans of the classic film can expect deadites, chainsaws, a freakish deer head, a chained-up cellar door, and a groovy cameo from Ash Williams (as portrayed by TV actor Donal Thoms-Capello).
You and your fellow paranormal investigators have been sent on a mission to the Knowby Cabin, which has materialized within the walls of the Archaeological Society. With Ash Williams guiding you, you will have to find a way return the evil dead to their realm and escape before the cabin is sucked into the time-space vortex forever.
In this adventure, you'll be given the identity of a member of the paranormal group "Gnostic Research of the Occult, Omens, Vampires, and Yetis" aka G.R.O.O.V.Y.
"I can't wait to transport folks into my all-time favorite horror movie," said Hourglass Escapes founder and creative director Seth Wolfson (Universal Studios Orlando, Ripley's Believe It Or Not). "We see this not as an imitation of the excellence that Sam, Bruce, and their crew created, but as a tribute to their unforgettable work."
Wolfson enlisted a passionate team of film and game veterans to help make the Evil Dead 2 escape room of his dreams. The team included set and prop designer Regan MacStravic (Captain Fantastic, Safety Not Guaranteed), makeup FX artist Tim Peirson (Z Nation), video director Ben Rock (production designer and creator of the infamous stickman for The Blair Witch Project), cinematographer Rakesh Malick (Winterlight Studios), projections by Atmos FX and veteran escape room composer David Chesnut.
Players will also enjoy new audio and video content created exclusively for Hourglass Escapes featuring Donal Thoms-Capello (The Twilight Zone) as Ash Williams, Yuri Lowenthal (the Spider-Man video game) as Professor Knowby, Andrea Hays (Twin Peaks) as Henrietta, and veteran Seattle theater actress Gretchen Douma.
Wolfson was careful not to spoil the room's many surprises, but he did say...
"Players are given characters and special items just for them, making this a one-of-a-kind escape room experience. Fans will love all the little details, and for those who have never seen the film, we promise a scary and fun experience for them, too."
