Chris Pine has shed some light on what fans can expect from his newest film, The Contractor, in a new exclusive interview with MovieWeb. From Paramount Movies, The Contractor features Pine in the lead role as an elite soldier on the run from professional assassins who want him dead. It's set for a release on April 1.

Ahead of the film's release, Pine teased the way The Contractor will toy with audience expectations. The actor tells us that a big theme of the film would be "assumptions," and how jumping the gun with them can sometimes lead to disastrous consequences. Pine also suggests that what happens in The Contractor will hopefully take the audience completely by surprise based upon these kinds of quick assumptions. As Pine explains:

"I would say what it plays with is probably assumptions. Not to give too much away but there's an assumption made, I think probably by the audience or hopefully by the audience. About this one person's intentions, that's really has a lot to do with racial profiling and some very oblique information that looks bad but is certainly not evidence in and of itself. And in fact, all of it's turned on its head and looks like the gun barrel should be pointed inward instead of outward. So not to give too much away. That's kind of a very general answer."

The Contractor is directed by Tarik Saleh and written by J. P. Davis. Along with Pine in the lead, the film stars Ben Foster, Gillian Jacobs, Eddie Marsan, JD Pardo, Florian Munteanu, and Kiefer Sutherland. Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee produced for Thunder Road Films and co-produced by Esther Hornstein. Pine executive produced with Dan Friedkin, Micah Green, Dan Steinman, Jonathan Fuhrman, Tom Lassally, and Josh Bratman.
