Shark Bait director James Nunn comes into this film with some experience in the genre. He worked as second unit director on 47 Meters Down along with its sequel, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged. Nunn also directed Eliminators, The Marine 5 & 6, and One Shot.

"The 47 Meters Down movies were a hell of a lot of fun to work on and I learned a great deal on them because it was such technical filmmaking," Nunn said of working on his shark movies in an interview with Kung Fu Kingdom. "Together, they made over $120 million worldwide, so that’s a good thing to be attached to in the hopes of getting my own big $50 million movie."

Noting how his work on these films led to Shark Bait, which was originally titled Jetski, Nunn added, "Since I did those movies as second unit director, a guy came to me with a script for another shark movie called Jetski, and was like 'Hey, you know how to do a shark movie, do you want to do your own?' and I said, 'Yeah, hell yeah, I’ll do my own!' So it was kind of a stepping stone towards doing that and doing something a bit different with a creature movie."

Nunn also explained how second unit directing was easy for him to do and that it's even better if he comes out of it with a good credit on a film that performs well. His goal is to get to the point where he's making his big-budget features along the lines of Marvel or Jurassic World movies. For now, filmgoers can see what he can do with Shark Bait.

Shark Bait will be released in theaters and on digital on May 13, 2022. Along with our exclusive clip above, you can watch the official trailer for the movie below.
