Follow Her is a psychosexual thriller in the vein of Brian De Palma, or like Paul Verhoeven on Instagram. It's an erotic but disturbing thriller, and it's coming to select theaters and through video on demand on June 2, 2023. Dani Barker writes and stars alongside Luke Cook (The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina) and Mark Moses (Bombshell, Mad Men). You can check out the official synopsis and an exclusive clip below:

Jess (Dani Barker) has finally found her hook: secretly filming creepy interactions she encounters via online job listings, and using the kinks of others to fuel her streaming success. For her next episode, she’s been hired by Tom (Luke Cook) to write the ending of a screenplay in a remote, lavish cabin. Once there, the alluring self-proclaimed screenwriter hands her a script in which the two of them are the main characters. This client isn’t what he seems, and even though the money’s great... the real payment here could cost her life. Follow Her is a psycho-sexual thriller which questions the ethical boundaries of social media.

A Scammer Gets Into a Dangerous Sexual Situation

The new film was inspired by writer/star Barker's own real-life experiences taking the oddest online Craigslist jobs and filming them with hidden cameras. Initially, Barker wanted to write something between two characters in one location, something she could “make for cheap.” She wanted to have her character Jess suddenly trapped in a house with only one option out: keeping her “character” in Tom’s story alive.

The movie has won 20 awards throughout the film festival circuit, including Best Horror Film at the MidWest WeirdFest, Best Actress at the Albuquerque Film & Music Experience, and Dark Matters Feature at the Austin Film Festival. The movie was also nominated for 30 total awards, including Best Graveyard Shift Feature at the Nashville Film Festival, and the American Independents Competition at the Cleveland International Film Festival.

MovieWeb's own Stephen Rosenberg wrote that the film was a thrilling commentary, writing:

The way the story unfolds isn't like your typical thriller, either, which breathes some refreshing life into a genre that tends to play out the same stories over and over again. By the time you get to the reveal of Follow Her, you're asking yourself "What just happened?", instead of saying "I saw that coming." Kudos to Dani Barker for some exceptionally creative writing.

Be sure to check out Follow Her, from Quiver Distribution, in select theaters and through video on demand beginning June 2nd, 2023.
