The upcoming Joker: Folie á Deux is the next installment of Joker, in which Lady Gaga will star opposite Joaquin Phoenix, who is reprising his role as Joker. Aspects of the project have been kept pretty tight-lipped, other than the movie's title and the fact that it will have a musical theme and be told from Quinn’s perspective.
Director Todd Phillips has shared images of Phoenix as Joker on his Instagram account, but the studio has not released official images of Lady Gaga as Quinn yet. Lady Gaga has had leading roles in films A Star is Born, House of Gucci, Sin City: A Dame to Die For, and in televisions American Horror Story.
While Lady Gaga has not publicly spoken about her involvement in the film yet, fans and industry professionals have expressed their excitement. Cinematographer Lawrence Sher and Margot Robbie, who portrayed Harley Quinn in the Suicide Squad movies, gave Lady Gaga their blessing for the role. Robbie told Entertainment Tonight, “I think she's going to do an amazing job. I'm so excited.”

The title, Folie à deux indicates that the film explores the theme of a shared mental disorder between two individuals. The characters Arthur Fleck (played by Phoenix) and Harleen Quinzel are depicted as having a toxic relationship that leads to a shared delusion or mental illness, ultimately leading to Dr. Quinzel's transformation into Harley Quinn.
The projected budget for the new movie surpasses the originals by nearly double, with a budget of $150 million.
The original Joker, released over five years ago, made history as the first R-rated movie to surpass $1 billion in global box office earnings. The film, which had a budget of $62.5 million, is one of the most profitable superhero movies of all time. While the first film had mixed reviews from critics, it had a successful run at the box office and positive audience reception.
