John Noble Talks Fringe Season 4

The actor who plays Walter Bishop on the Friday night Fox series discusses bringing back the Peter/Olivia/Bolivia love triangle in Season 4 and more

Fringe, which just wrapped up its third season last month, is certainly a show which has a loyal and devoted fan base. Despite being moved to the dreaded Friday night death slot back in January, a move which is normally a half-step above cancellation, Fox renewed the show back in March for a fourth season.

I recently had the chance to speak with series star John Noble, who plays Dr. Walter Bishop (and the alternate universe version, "Walternate,") about the future of the show. The actor shared what aspects of the show fans have personally told him they want to see again on Fringe. Here's what he had to say below.

"Well, I know from a fact, from talking to people, that things people adore on the show, one, they want to see a resolution between Walt and Walternate. They have to see some resolution or something happen with Olivia, those things have to get tied up. They're frustrated by the fact that the Walter/Peter (Joshua Jackson) relationship, which is so powerful, has dissipated. We have quite a way to go, but Josh and I want that back too. There is also that triangle that existed between Peter, Olivia (Anna Torv), and Bolivia (Olivia's alternate universe version). A lot of our audience are interested in that little triangle, or half-triangle. They would be mad not to revisit these things. The personalities and the relationships really hold it together, as well as the stories. People identify with the characters and they care about us. That's what we have to keep alive."

The actor also said he starts production on Fringe in mid-July, right before what is now an annual ritual for the show: making an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con.

"We'll start principal photography on July 14, so it's coming up. I think it's about six days of work then we fly down to San Diego for Comic-Con (Laughs). Both times, we've come just after we started, like a week in. Then we go to San Diego."

Fox announced last week that Season 4 of Fringe will debut on Friday, September 23 at 9 PM ET. We also announced earlier today that Fringe: The Complete Third Season will be released on Blu-ray and DVD on September 6.
