Ross Bagdasarian, Jr. created America's favorite singing chipmunks, Alvin and the Chipmunks to be exact, in 1958 when he discovered that if he sped up his musical recordings the high-pitch voices would sound like singing chipmunks, thus the Chipmunks were born. Since then, the furry musical group have had hit songs, popular TV shows, a blockbuster live-action/CGI film and have even earned a Grammy. Now the trio has returned for a "Squeakquel" to their 2007 hit Alvin and the Chipmunks, which went on to make over $300 million worldwide, entitled Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel, opening in theaters on December 23rd. Not only will the film mark the cinematic return of the brothers Chipmunk but will also introduce to the big screen for the very first time their famous female counterparts, the Chipettes. We recently had the great opportunity to sit down with the true stars of the film, Alvin, Simon and Theodore, as well as a few of their human co-stars, Zachary Levi, Christina Applegate and Amy Poehler, to find out just what fans can expect from this much anticipated new holiday family film. During the Chipmunk's benefit concert in Paris, France, David Seville (Jason Lee) suffers a severe injury and is rushed to the hospital. Although he survives, he must stay for a few days to recuperate, so he leaves his cousin Toby (Zachary Levi) in charge of the Chipmunks until he returns. Prior to the event, Dave had made arrangements for Alvin (Justin Long), Simon (Matthew Gray Gubler), and Theodore (Jesse McCartney) to attend high school. Meanwhile, Ian Hawke (David Cross), still bitter from events of the first film, searches the world for animals that can sing and dance. He happens upon Brittany (Christina Applegate), Jeanette (Anna Faris), and Eleanor (Amy Poehler), the Chipettes, and cannot wait to make them famous, and get his sworn revenge on the Chipmunks. Starring Jason Lee, David Cross, Zachary Levi, Justin Long, Anna Faris, Christina Applegate, Amy Poehler, Cameron Richardson, Matthew Gray Gubler and Jesse McCartney, directed by Betty Thomas, Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel opens on December 23rd.
