If there is one overall theme that runs through the films of Rob Reiner it's got to be true love. Whether its The Sure Thing, Princess Bride or When Harry Met Sally..., true love is an ongoing theme that the director has examined over the years. Reiner is also no stranger to directing children as he directed the now classic film Stand By Me starring child-actors River Phoenix and Corey Feldman. So it only makes sense that Reiner would be the perfect choice to adapt Wendelin Van Draanen's popular book, Flipped, which is opening on August 6th and is about two childhood friends who's lives are undeniably interlinked forever. The movie boasts an excellent cast of acting veterans including Aidan Quinn, Rebecca De Mornay, Penelope Ann Miller, Anthony Edwards and John Mahoney. We recently had an opportunity to sit down and speak with some of the members of the cast including Rebecca De Mornay, Penelope Ann Miller, John Mahoney, Madeline Carroll, Cody Horn and of course the film's director Rob Reiner about the new movie, the book it is based on, true love and the films of Rob Reiner. When second-graders Bryce (Callan McAuliffe) and Juli (Madeline Carroll) first meet, Juli knows it is love but Bryce isn't so sure. Girl-phobic and easily embarrassed, young Bryce does everything he can to keep his outspoken wannabe girlfriend at arm's length... for the next six years, which isn't easy since they go to the same school and live across the street from each other. But if Juli finally looks away, will it be Bryce's turn to be dazzled? Flipped takes Bryce and Juli from grade school to junior high, through triumph and disaster, family drama and first love, as they make the discoveries that will define who they are and who they are to each other. The film is an adaptation of Wendelin Van Draanen's young-adult novel, Flipped and the story takes place from 1957-63 as the kids grow up from ages seven to thirteen.
