Ice Cube continues his family friendly film streak with The Longshots, an uplifting comedy-drama about the only female quarterback to play in the Pop Warner football championship. Keke Palmer (Akeelah and the Bee) stars as Jasmine Plummer, a shy girl living with her mother in the impoverished town of Minden, Illinois. Jasmine is forced to spend time with her unemployed Uncle (Ice Cube), who quickly discovers she has a natural ability to throw the football. He convinces her to try out for the quarterback position on the local team. Jasmine overcomes herself and the doubts of others to lead the Minden Browns to football glory. Check out our exclusive interview with Ice Cube and Keke Palmer below.

The Longshots is the directorial debut from rap-metal group Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst. Ice Cube, who also produced the film, talks about choosing Durst and working with a fellow rapper turned filmmaker. Cube also discusses his mission to bring the Ice Cube brand to a new generation through family films. Keke Palmer's star continues to rise as she brings another positive, black teenage character to the screen. Palmer is also venturing into the music genre with her own single and tour.

The Longshots hits theaters everywhere August 22nd.
