Mel Gibson is best known for his roles in films like Mad Max, Braveheart and the Lethal Weapon series but the actor is also an Oscar winning director who is responsible for one of the biggest grossing movies of all-time, The Passion Of The Christ. Now, for the first time since '02s Signs Gibson returns in front of the camera to deliver another gritty and powerful performance in Edge Of Darkness, opening in theaters on January 29th. The film, which is directed by Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) and co-stars Ray Winstone (Beowolf), is a political-thriller wrapped up in a revenge film starring Gibson as a Boston Police officer investigating his own daughter's sudden death when he discovers a corporate cover-up that has ties to the local government. We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with the film's director Martin Campbell, who will next be directing the comic book movie Green Lantern, and the film's stars Mel Gibson and Ray Winstone to discuss the new movie, the film's location, Winstone's mysterious character and Mel's return to the silver screen. Edge Of Darkness is an emotionally charged thriller set at the intersection of politics and big business. Thomas Craven (Gibson) is a veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Department and a single father. When his only child, twenty-four year-old Emma (Bojana Novakovic), is murdered on the steps of his home, everyone assumes that he was the target. But he soon suspects otherwise, and embarks on a mission to find out about his daughter's secret life and her killing. His investigation leads him into a dangerous, looking glass world of corporate cover-ups, government collusion and murder. He also discovers shadowy government operative Darius Jedburgh (Winstone), who has been sent in to clean up the evidence. Craven's solitary search for answers about his daughter's death transforms into an odyssey of emotional discovery and redemption. Starring Mel Gibson, Ray Winstone, Danny Huston, Bojana Novakovic, Shawn Roberts, Jay O. Sanders, Denis O'Hare and Frank Grillo. Directed by Martin Campbell, Edge Of Darkness opens in theaters on January 29th.
