Surfwise is a lively new documentary that delves into the life of legendary Malibu surfer Dorian 'Doc' Paskowitz. A successful doctor, Paskowitz 'dropped out' of normal society in the 1960s and traveled to Israel, where he is credited as having introduced the sport of surfing. He went on to raise nine children (eight of them boys) in a cramped motor home, schooling them in the ways of health and fitness, sexuality, and above all else, surfing. This is their family's story. One that needs to be seen to be believed. We recently caught up with Doc, five of his children, and the director of Surfwise, Doug Pray, on the shores of Santa Monica Beach. There, they taught us to surf and offered new insight into this project, which shines a mighty bright light on their unique home life.
