The last few months have finally shed some light on Matt Reeves’ The Batman, and while there is still a lot lurking in the shadows of the latest big-screen iteration of the Dark Knight, we have a reasonable idea of what to expect from the Robert Pattinson led movie. Recently the official synopsis has been updated and expanded, and while it doesn’t reveal too much that we didn’t already know, it does bring all the little snippets that have been put out there so far together in one place for dissection.

The new synopsis from The Batman's official website reads, "From Warner Bros. Pictures comes Matt Reeves' The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson in the dual role of Gotham City's vigilante detective and his alter ego, reclusive billionaire Bruce Wayne.

"Two years of stalking the streets as the Batman (Robert Pattinson), striking fear into the hearts of criminals, has led Bruce Wayne deep into the shadows of Gotham City. With only a few trusted allies -- Alfred Pennyworth (Andy Serkis), Lt. James Gordon (Jeffrey Wright) -- amongst the city's corrupt network of officials and high-profile figures, the lone vigilante has established himself as the sole embodiment of vengeance amongst his fellow citizens.

As the evidence begins to lead closer to home and the scale of the perpetrator's plans becomes clear, Batman must forge new relationships, unmask the culprit, and bring justice to the abuse of power and corruption that has long plagued Gotham City.

"Starring alongside Pattinson (Tenet, The Lighthouse) as Gotham's famous and infamous cast of characters are Zoë Kravitz (Big Little Lies, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald) as Selina Kyle; Paul Dano (Love & Mercy, 12 Years a Slave) as Edward Nashton; Jeffrey Wright (No Time to Die, Westworld) as the GCPD's James Gordon; John Turturro (the Transformers films, The Plot Against America) as Carmine Falcone; Peter Sarsgaard (The Magnificent Seven, Interrogation) as Gotham D.A. "Warner Bros. Pictures Presents a 6th & Idaho/Dylan Clark Productions Production, a Matt Reeves Film, The Batman. The film is set to open in theaters beginning 2 March 2022 and will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures."

Warner Bros. is hoping that The Batman will be kicking off a new franchise within the world of the Caped Crusader, with more movies planned, a Gotham PD spin-off series already in production, and a rumored show centering on Colin Farrell’s Penguin in development. After a very shaky origin, with fans immediately dismissing Robert Pattinson being able to take over the Batman role, the arrival of a number of trailers, sneak peeks, and reports from early screenings have started to build a hype that will reach its peak by the time the film arrives in theaters in March next year.
