Filming has begun on Extraction 2. On Instagram, director Sam Hargrave shared a video announcing that cameras are now officially rolling on the anticipated sequel which brings back Chris Hemsworth for another action adventure. It looks to be a very cold day on the set but Hargrave is clearly very excited to get started in the footage. You can check it out below.

Sam Hargrave says in the caption, “Shoot Day 1 is in the books on Extraction 2! We have such an amazing cast and crew… Excited about this one!!!” In the video, he adds, “Well that’s a wrap on day one on Extraction 2 at the train location. We’ve got a lot of snow today, but it looks pretty great on camera, so we’ll take it.”

Released on Netflix last year, Extraction was directed by Sam Hargrave and comes from a story by Ande Parks, Joe Russo, and Anthony Russo. It features Chris Hemsworth in the lead role alongside Rudhraksh Jaiswal, Randeep Hooda, Priyanshu Painyuli, Golshifteh Farahani, Pankaj Tripathi, and David Harbour. It follows Hemsworth as a black ops mercenary on a mission to rescue an Indian drug lord’s kidnapped son in Bangladesh, but the plan goes awry when he’s double-crossed.

Extraction was a big hit for Netflix, pulling in viewers from 99 million households within its first month of release. It was also met with wide praise from viewers and critics, many of whom wanted to see the story expanded in another installment. Given this success, it wasn’t long before the sequel was officially ordered, and now it has to be a good feeling for the cast and crew to get started once again.

There’s not a lot of information that’s been released about Extraction 2 but what we know is that it will bring back Chris Hemsworth as Tyler Rake. Hemsworth personally unveiled a new teaser for the sequel at the TUDUM fan event, telling Extraction fans, “If you thought our first film pushed the limits, wait until you see what Sam and I have planned for this next installment.”

Sam Hargrave also shared what he expected from the future of Extraction in a previous Collider interview. He teased that after completing work on Extraction 2 with the same team from the original movie, he’d ideally like to see other filmmakers start coming in to work on the remaining sequels.

“I would like to be as involved as possible but I also don't want to be greedy. There's a lot of other super talented filmmakers out there who would have very unique visions and would bring something new and fresh to the franchise that I would be excited to see as a fan. Hopefully we get to do the second one with all the same team and really establish the franchise, if you will. But from there I would love to see, as a fan of cinema, other young directors who, again, can push the level of action."

Extraction 2 is scheduled to be released on April 13, 2023. You can watch the first movie on Netflix.
