In the Marvel comic books, Captain America and The Falcon have long been partners, although some believe that The Falcon is merely Captain America's sidekick.

Anthony Mackie, who portrays Falcon in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, recently talked about his character's working relationship with Captain America and Black Widow in this sequel, saying he's more than just Robin the Boy Wonder.

"It's interesting because a lot of people equate it to Batman and Robin, but the reality of it is, it's more of a working relationship, a respect relationship as opposed to a leader and follower. The three of us (Captain America, Falcon, and Black Widow) work really well together and we support each other. All of us are really different in our abilities and powers, so when we come together we make an awesome tandem."

Joking, the actor claims that he was mislead about being the second lead in the movie, revealing that its Falcon, not Captain America, who actually gets injured in the story.

"They sold me that I was the second lead in the movie, so there's a point where Cap gets hurt, and [I] do everything for Cap. And I get the script, and... that's not true. I get hurt, not Cap!"
