Five main cast members have been revealed for The Fall of the House of Usher, a new horror miniseries in the works at Netflix from Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass). Based on various works from Edgar Allan Poe, the series has enlisted a solid cast to help tell these classic stories to a new audience on Netflix. This includes Frank Langella (Frost/Nixon), Carla Gugino (Spy Kids), Mary McDonnell (Battlestar Galactica), Mark Hamill (Star Wars), and Carl Lumbly (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier). You can see the announcement below.

"Headlining this incredible ensemble, leading this extraordinary cast as Roderick Usher, the towering patriarch of the Usher dynasty… is the legendary FRANK LANGELLA," Mike Flanagan stated. "Also front and center, reuniting with Intrepid for our fourth project together, my dear friend and invaluable collaborator, the one and only... CARLA GUGINO. As Madeline Usher, Roderick’s twin sister and the hidden hand of the Usher dynasty, we are thrilled to welcome the graceful, powerful, incomparable... MARY MCDONNELL."

He added, "A new addition to the dark worlds of Intrepid and of Edgar Allan Poe, playing a character surprisingly at home in the shadows, we are thrilled to welcome... the iconic MARK HAMILL. And rounding out this first wave, as Poe’s legendary investigator C. Auguste Dupin, we are so honored to welcome back one of my favorite past collaborators, the extraordinary... CARL LUMBLY."

Eight episodes of The Fall of the House of Usher have been ordered at Netflix. Mike Flanagan and Michael Fimognari will direct four episodes each. Flanagan and Fimognari are also executive producing with Trevor Macy and Emmy Grinwis.

“A lot of the stuff I do is a slow burn. The Fall of the House of Usher is a brush fire,” Flanagan previously said on the Boo Crew Podcast. “It is an explosion. It is as aggressive and rock ‘n roll and over the top and just violent and insane and horrific as anything I have ever done… by a lot. We’re gonna pull all the all stars from the Intrepid group of actors and some great new faces and we’re just gonna f**king jam."

He added, “We want just buckets of blood pouring out of the ceiling on page two. And we’re just gonna go ballistic. And we’re gonna do it all to the music of one of the most intensely effective gothic horror writers. This is what we’ve been craving. A chance to just go ballistic on something. The entire catalogue of Poe is wide open. It’s all public domain. We can cherry pick whatever we want and put it into one giant, crazy, heavy metal riff that’s just blood-soaked and wild. In a sense, we get to blow off steam after five very emotional years. And it lets me play in a corner of the genre I haven’t gotten to play in in a long time. It’s a relief really. It’s fun to have fun.”

The Fall of the House of Usher does not have an official release date at this time.
