It's hard to argue that Ryan Reynolds not only finally found his true calling in the comic universe with Deadpool, but that no one else could have brought the wise-cracking mutant mercenary to life on the big screen in the same fashion he has. The franchise blew up the box office and garnered millions of fans worldwide, proving that audiences want superheroes and the creative directors behind them to push the envelope more. The first film Deadpool (2016), directed by Tim Miller, introduced a slew of new characters, including the modest yet cheeky cab driver named Dopinder that Deadpool ultimately becomes close friends with. The two proved their comical chemistry and Dopinder unexpectedly became one of the film's most popular characters. He re-appeared as Deadpool's sidekick in the sequel to much fanfare and now, per a report from CBR, he's set to return yet again in the upcoming film Deadpool 3.

Karan Soni, the actor who plays the eccentric and loyal cab driver Dopinder, has since become a fixture in the Deadpool universe. He was introduced in the first scene of the first film, and it clearly paid off as he's garnered quite a following alongside Wade Wilson. He returned in the sequel Deadpool 2 (2018) as Wilson's full-time sidekick, chauffeur, and confidante in the fight against Josh Brolin's cybernetic soldier Cable, and later Firefist and classic X-Men villian the Juggernaut. Audiences were more than happy to see Dopinder's return and now, thanks to his ongoing popularity, a casting announcement for Deadpool 3 revealed that Karan Soni will be back yet again to team up with Ryan Reynolds on his next adventure. Alongside him Leslie Uggams will also be returning as Blind Al, Deadpool's blind roommate.

The third film in the merc-with-a-mouth franchise is reportedly taking a decisively different turn with its choice of plot this time. Deadpool will be setting out on a road trip to bring Wolverine back from the dead, who will be reprised by who else but Hugh Jackman. The two have jokingly sparred with one another since Reynolds first made wisecracks as Deadpool about Jackman and his tenure as Wolverine in the X-Men universe. It was nothing short of fate that the two characters would eventually come together in some fashion, and thankfully it turns out that they'll share the third film while hopefully not tearing each other to pieces by the end. Other cast set to appear so far include Emma Corrin (The Crown) as an unnamed villain, Matthew Macfayden (Succession) also in an undisclosed role, Owen Wilson's Agent Mobius, and Tara Strong's Miss Minutes. The latter two also star in the ongoing Marvel series Loki.

Deadpool 3 will be released on Nov. 8, 2024.
