Much loved actor and comedian Jim Carrey celebrated his 60th birthday with a post on Twitter as fans congratulated the star on his milestone birthday. The Canadian star who rose to fame in movies such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and The Mask has seen his career hit many highs and a few lows over the last thirty years, but he is once again on top of his game as he enters his sixth decade and doesn’t seem quite ready to give it all up just yet.

From his early childhood spent pulling faces in the mirror, to a movie to Hollywood in his early twenties, Jim Carrey was seemingly always destined to be a star, even when his early comedy acts didn’t exactly set the world alight. After failing numerous early auditions for Saturday Night Live, he managed to join the ensemble cast of comedy series In Living Color, and while the show would only run for four years it brought him to the attention of filmmakers who gave him his first shot at the big time.

In 1994, Carrey played the lead role in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, a movie that introduced the world to the actor’s unique style and rubber faced comedy antics. From there he dived straight into The Mask and Dumb and Dumber, all of which sealed his place in Hollywood as a one of the biggest up and coming comedy talents of the 1990s. Carrey’s profile gained a huge boost when he took on the role of The Riddler in Batman Forever, and when Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls was released to a record breaking $40 million opening weekend, it seemed that he could do no wrong.

After a misfire with The Cable Guy, Carrey spent a year basking in the glory of critical acclaim for both comedy roles in movies such as Liar Liar, Me, Myself & Irene and Bruce Almighty, and more surprisingly a number of straight roles in The Truman Show, Man on The Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. For those who hadn’t quite connected with Carrey’s comedy style, these non-comic roles brought him to a whole new audience, and with it came a number of award nominations.

Carrey saw his career hit a rocky period after his huge success, but his fans remained behind him even when his movies were being panned by critics and not exactly setting the box office light. However, in 2018 Carrey was cast as Dr. Robotnik in a new live action series based on the Sega computer game character Sonic The Hedgehog, a role that would see him reclaim his manic-comedy crown, and he will be back to reprise the role in this year’s Sonic The Hedgehog 2.

As one of the biggest stars of the 1990s and having managed to continue to work regularly across four decades, Jim Carrey is still one of the most loved actors in Hollywood as he hits 60, and as he has shown, he may be growing older, but he still doesn’t plan on growing up anytime soon. You can see some of the many birthday wishes shared on social media to commemorate his milestone birthday.
