Kirsten Dunst celebrated her 40th birthday on April 30th and having been a big part of Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy there were plenty of Spidey-fans who wanted to wish her many happy returns. Of course here movie roles have included many other movies across her career, from her early role in Interview With The Vampire, through Jumani and Bring It On, to the likes of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and most recently The Power of the Dog, which earned her a first Oscar nomination.

Ever since Tobey Maguire returned to his Spider-Man role in the MCU movie Spider-Man: No Way Home, there has been a question of whether Dunst would return to her role of MJ, and as the multiverse continues to throw up plenty of Marvel surprises, the actress has previously confessed that she feels like a return could happen. With that reprisal still being seen as a possibility it is not surprising that many fans of the superhero franchise came out to celebrate the star’s milestone birthday, but Dunst has many other followers outside the genre as can be seen from the tweets below.

Kirsten Dunst Would Like to Return as Old-Girl Mary Jane

Kirsten Dunst Opens Up on 'Very Extreme' Pay Gap for Spider-Man Movies

While promoting The Power of the Dog last year, Kirsten Dunst was asked her thoughts on the return of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield and her own possible Marvel return. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly she said, “I wish they’d put me in another one. Like, old-girl Mary Jane – why not?” That isn’t the first time Dunst has made the suggestion that she would like to play the part again, having also told Variety, “I would do it. Why not? That would be fun. I would never say no to something like that... I'd be old MJ at this point with little Spidey babies."

Of course there are many former Marvel stars who have been turning up recently thanks to the introduction of the multiverse to the MCU, and that looks like something that is set to continue for a little while to come. This means that there is no reason why there couldn’t be a chance for Dunst to reprise her role, especially with both Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire expressing their interested in doing more work with Marvels’ biggest selling superhero.

Sam Raimi spoke earlier this month about his love of working with both Maguire and Dunst and how “anything is possible.” He told Fandango:

"I've come to realize after making Doctor Strange that anything is possible, really anything in the Marvel universe, any team-ups. I love Tobey. I love Kirsten Dunst. I think all things are possible. I don't really have a story or a plan. I don't know if Marvel would be interested in that right now. I don't know what their thoughts are about that. I haven't really pursued that. But it sounds beautiful. Even if it wasn't a Spider-Man movie, I'd love to work with Tobey again, in a different role."

When it comes the movies, you are only ever as old as you feel, and some much older actors and actresses have proven that you are never too old to find a place in a Marvel movie. For that reason, it is possible that we could see Dunst back as a 40-year-old+ Mary Jane sometime in the future. For now, we wish her a happy birthday along with her many fans.
