The Children's Circle was founded in response to the needs of HIV impacted infants and children who had been taken into protective custody by the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. Some had been abandoned at birth while others had been removed from their families due to neglect, abuse or the inability of the family to care for the child. Our first, six bed group home for children, ages birth to six years of age, was opened in July, 1990 and a second eight bed home followed in October, 1992. These homes remain the only facilities of their kind in Los Angeles County.

Due to the growing need for expertise in the care of medically fragile older children in protective custody, as well as extended life expectancies for HIV/AIDS impacted children, The Children's Circle is now licensed to care for 15 medically fragile children from seven to seventeen. Services are provided by a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and are designed to stabilize the child's life and assess medical, psychological, psychosocial and developmental needs. Childcare workers, a residential case manager, child therapists, registered dietician and a 24-hour nursing staff work together to achieve our programmatic goals.
