After meeting in 2009's Fast & Furious, Han and Gisele went on to become a power couple in the Fast & Furious franchise. The two lovers planned to move together to Tokyo, but those plans would ultimately not come to fruition as Gisele sacrificed herself in Fast & Furious 6. Han proceeded to move to Tokyo alone, where he himself met a tragic end after being T-boned in the streets. Both characters were confirmed to have died, and yet, both characters returned in Fast X.

Development has begun on several spin-off films, which will include a women-led spin-off as well as a film centered on Luke Hobbs. If it has not already been discussed, Universal should consider a Han and Gisele film, which could give the franchise some welcome new energy. The film could distinguish itself from the "buddy action" of 2019's Hobbs & Shaw, instead resembling a Fast & Furious-style Mr. & Mrs. Smith. Here's why Gal Gadot needs her own spin-off with Sung Kang.

Both Han and Gisele are Fan Favorite Characters

Aside from Letty Ortiz, Han and Gisele have been the only major characters to be brought back from the dead. Gisele fell off a plane that was in midair, and seeing as Gadot did not portray Wonder Woman in Fast & Furious 6, there was no way her character could have survived. Meanwhile, Han was trapped in an exploding car in The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. His death was single-handedly responsible for disrupting the franchise's chronological order, with three of the Fast films serving as prequels to Tokyo Drift in order to feature Han.

It has always said something about the popularity of a character when their death scene is retconned so that they can continue to live. The Fast & Furious franchise has recognized Han and Gisele as fan favorites and has gone out of its way to feature them in the saga's concluding installments. Fans were happy to see them return, but a whole new world of storytelling opens up when the film doesn't have to follow Dom's entire crew.

Gadot and Kang Need More Screen Time Outside the Main Saga

Fast X

Fast X was more crowded than ever, featuring several plots that happened at the same time across the globe. The film primarily focused on Dom and Jason Momoa's villain, Dante Reyes, leaving the other characters outside of the spotlight. Han and Gisele are expected to reunite in the sequel, but there is so much the filmmakers could do with Kang and Gadot's characters that wouldn't fit into Fast & Furious 11.

More than 10 years have passed since Han and Gisele last saw each other on-screen. During that time, Han walked the earth as a dead man while protecting Elle. Whether he and Gisele thought each other to be dead or knew that the other person was alive, there's enough story there for an entire film.

How do you reconnect with your lost love when you were separated not because of a break-up, but because both of you died? What has changed over the last 10 years, and what has remained the same? A Fast & Furious spin-off film could explore the complexities of that dynamic and build on where the main series leaves Gisele and Han.

A Han and Gisele spinoff film has the opportunity to give fans something new while being connected to a familiar and already successful franchise. Gisele was named by Mr. Nobody as his best operative, which means she is the ideal candidate for some of the franchise's most dangerous missions. Gadot has starred in films such as Red Notice, Keeping Up with the Joneses, and Heart of Stone, all of which are films where she portrayed elite agents. She has established herself as an action heroine and is more than capable of leading a Fast & Furious spin-off film.

Kang recently played the Fifth Brother in Obi-Wan Kenobi, but the Fast & Furious franchise is where he has been at his most charming. Han did not have the fighting skills of Jah, muscles of Luke Hobbs, or the wisecracking personality of Roman Pearce, and still became one of the coolest characters in the franchise.

Some of the saga's most resonant lines came from Han, which included the fan-favorite: "I have money, it's trust and character I need around me. You know, who you choose to be around you lets you know who you are. One car in exchange for knowing what a man's made of? That's a price I can live with."

Han & Gisele as a Tokyo Drift Sequel?

The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift has consistently been regarded as a series highlight, and Han & Gisele could double as a Tokyo Drift sequel. Rather than launching Dom's crew into space, the spin-off could focus on street races and more grounded spy missions. Han and Gisele were unable to move together to Tokyo a decade ago, but Fast X has left them in a position where that is now possible.
