Universal Pictures has slated Fast & Furious 6 for release on May 24, 2013, the lucrative Memorial Day weekend slot. The last two movies in the franchise - Fast & Furious and Fast Five - were released in April.

Back in April, we reported that Fast & Furious and Fast Five writer Chris Morgan signed a deal to write Fast & Furious 6. Justin Lin is also returning to direct.

We also reported in May that Fast & Furious 6 will take place in a different location than Fast Five, which was set in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

It isn't known when production will start on Fast & Furious 6. Although no deals have been signed yet, franchise stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will likely return for this new installment.

Fast Five has taken in nearly $600 million at the box office worldwide since its April 29 release.
