Coming into a franchise to direct its penultimate instalment is a heavy task for anyone, but for Fast X helmer Louis Leterrier his last minute take over from Justin Lin has been particularly challenging. Despite this, Leterrier has thrown himself into the tenth movie in the Fast and Furious franchise, which includes a new villain in the form of Jason Momoa’s Dante.

It was previously revealed that Momoa’s character will have a personal score to settle with Vin Diesel’s Dom. As part of the extended synopsis of the movie states, “In 2011’s Fast Five, Dom and his crew took out nefarious Brazilian drug kingpin Hernan Reyes and decapitated his empire on a bridge in Rio De Janeiro. What they didn’t know was that Reyes’ son, Dante, witnessed it all and has spent the last 12 years masterminding a plan to make Dom pay the ultimate price. Dante’s plot will scatter Dom’s family from Los Angeles to the catacombs of Rome, from Brazil to London and from Portugal to Antarctica. New allies will be forged and old enemies will resurface. But everything changes when Dom discovers that his own 8-year-old son is the ultimate target of Dante’s vengeance.”

Now Leterrier has given his view on Momoa’s Danter and exactly what makes the flamboyant villain tick. In an interview with Total Film, the directed broke down the character, saying:

“Dante is in awe of Dom. He’s analyzed him. There’s nowhere to hide, because he knows Dom better than he knows himself. Dom truly meets his match with Dante. Family goes both ways. There’s family on your side. There’s also family on the other person’s side. When the family that was your super-strength becomes your Achilles’ heel, it’s where you’re going to get wounded the most.”

The Fast and Furious franchise has become much bigger and successful than anyone ever believed possible, and it’s final two movies are certainly not holding back on the action. The movie’s trailer felt like the longest ever preview of a movie at over three minutes, and it is clear from the footage that Fast X is going to be non-stop action from start to finish. However, Vin Diesel recently warned that the film is not going to necessarily end well, and added that it will have a “big” cliffhanger. He said:

"This one is big. You know, I don't want to oversell it, but what we're planning on the next one is just gigantic, in terms of action, scope and emotion. You will feel all the feels. Tears will roll."

Fast X stars a large ensemble cast containing both old and new faces, including Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris "Ludacris" Bridges, Jason Momoa, Nathalie Emmanuel, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, John Cena, Jason Statham, Alan Ritchson, Daniela Melchior, Scott Eastwood, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, Brie Larson, and Rita Moreno. The film revs up in theaters on May 19, 2023.
