It seemed that the end was near for the Fast & Furious saga, with the premiere of the first part of Fast X just around the corner, and an upcoming and final film soon to be released. However, it looks like the hit action franchise could last a bit longer.Fast X arrives in theaters this month, two years after the premiere of the ninth part of the story that began in 2001 with Vin Diesel and Paul Walker at the helm. More than 20 years later, the saga has not stopped and has become a worldwide phenomenon despite strong criticism received for the lack of realism in its action sequences and the strange development of the stories. In the midst of promoting the new film, Diesel gave some hope to fans who believed the end was near, hinting that the final installment could be divided into three parts instead of two, as originally planned (via Twitter user ErickDavis):

Considering the overwhelming numbers the franchise has put up at the box office, it wouldn't be a surprise if they decided to extend it. In fact, in 2019 the first major expansion of the story came with its first spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham, Hobbs & Shaw, with which it was also planned to make a separate saga due to the conflicts between The Rock and Diesel.

And while that cinematic universe didn't work out, Fast & Furious had its animated series on Netflix, and Vin Diesel had several spinoff ideas he wanted to develop, like one starring the women of the franchise, Jordana Brewster, Michelle Rodriguez, and more.

For now, fans will be welcome to a new chapter of the story when Fast X hits theaters on May 19. The film will connect directly with the mythology of the saga, since the main villain is related to Fast Five.

In the fifth installment, Dominic and his family were in Rio de Janeiro escaping from the police after having released the leader of the group from jail. There they end up cooperating with the forces to dethrone the leader of the mafia, Hernan Reyes, without knowing that their actions would bring serious consequences in the future.

Years later, Reyes's son, Dante, seeks revenge for his father's death. He will separate the Toretto family in order to push Dom to the limit and force him to choose who he will save, the main victim of this new enemy being Dom's son, Brian.

For this new adventure the saga will feature the returns of Diesel, Brewster, Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, John Cena, Jason Statham and Scott Eastwood.

They will be joined by new stars, Daniela Melchior, Brie Larson, Alan Ritchson, Rita Moreno as Grandma Toretto and Jason Momoa playing the dangerous Dante. Charlize Theron also returns as Cipher, a villain from the previous installments.
